welcome to community rising.
Community Rising started as a Transition* Initiative becoming the third official Transition Town in the USA in 2008. After several years of community building and volunteer community projects, we evolved into a Social Enterprise- an organization that applies professional strategies to optimize improvements in human and environmental well being, rather than maximizing profits.
We provide consulting and strategic planning services for communities & organizations in transition. We hope our community design projects pages inspire you to make changes in your own community or organization towards a more sustainable future. Please refer to our services page for the range of services we provide.
Ketchum ID, the mountain resort town we live in, has been through various transitions and continues to evolve in to a more vibrant community.
Needless to say none of these projects would have been possible without the cooperation of the City of Ketchum & Mayor Randy Hall (2006 - 2014), the KCDC (Ketchum Community Development Corporation), generous donors and community volunteers.
*Transition: As we become aware that the way we live and work are unsustainable, we must look for a way to transition to a more resilient, ecological, and ultimately more fulfilling way of living in community and with nature

Dale bates receives 2017 smart growth
charles hummel award
"It was an honor to be presented with the Charles Hummel Lifetime Achievement Award last November by Idaho Smart Growth. They recognized my work as an architect on affordable housing and as a civic leader in facilitating the Ketchum Town Square, Fourth St. Pedestrian Corridor, and the Ketchum Walkablity. I'm so looking forward to Ketchum completing the good work we did."
